Course Objectives The objective of this course is mainly to develop the application of written, oral and interpersonal communication theory in the business environment in general and international trade and investment environment in particular. Based on an overview of relevant theory, students refine their skills as business communicators through assigned projects and exercises as well as in-class presentations, critiques and discussions. A high level of competency in spoken and written English is assumed as is a substantial degree of computer literacy. This course consists of several on-line assignments, in-class discussions, a research project and exams. There are also a series of text-related exercises.
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Deliver an impromptu and a planned oral presentation on selected trade and finance or professional related issues.
  • Analyse their own writing or speaking and provide effective and useful feedback to enable other students to improve their writing or speaking.
  • Elaborate written messages that address structure, audience and different types of messages
  • Conduct basic preliminary analysis of data after accessing and extracting related databases (ie Central Banks’ database, FRED data base)
  • Explain the operational systems of international and leading institutions by visiting their respective websites
  • Describe basic financial instruments and investment analysis through financial literacy skills developed.
Course Description The course focuses on communication in international business, trade and investment environment. This course is designed to strengthen a student’s oral and written skills for various business-related purposes. The course will also increase their level of familiarity with various communication technologies used widely in international trade and finance today.
